Yahoo Hosting Reviews
When looking for a host online for your personal, small business or large business, make sure to research. There are many providers out there that offer slightly different or cheaper incentives than the first. It is important to understand the differences in each provider. That way you will not get caught in the loop. Yahoo hosting offers personal and small business sites for a relatively average price. The benefit of working with Yahoo is that they offer simple instructions for the beginner on how to design a website.
Website Templates Provided
They offer templates and demo videos that show how other customers have made their pages. You do not need to have any experience producing webpages when utilizing Yahoo hosting. They are able to guide you with demos and a customer service team that are available almost always. In case you are afraid to forget something, Yahoo hosting provides you with a step by step checklist. These are great for those of us who are “list” oriented. Also, sometimes a customer may not find the template that fits their business or lifestyle. Yahoo hosting strives to provide their clients with outside graphic artists and computer consultants who will work with you and yahoo in order to produce content.
Ideas for Traffic Generation
Yahoo hosting provides ideas on how to gain more traffic to your site. They advise connecting your site to your social network. Social networking has become more and more lucrative when applied and linked to your personal or business site. The statistics support that most businesses should consider linking the site and social networks together. Yahoo hosting will guide you through it and even show you were to place embedded links in order to get your site thoroughly connected.
99.9% Up-time
Yahoo hosting also boasts that they are rarely down. This means that their sites will be running the majority of the time unless something out of the ordinary happens. All Yahoo hosting sites run on Unix systems, which provides reliability and safety. All of the accounts on the system are encrypted and password protected. Safety and your business are a number one priority with Yahoo hosting. This being said, make sure to consider your password. It should never be part of your name or your address. Also never use the same password; this increases the chances of your accounts becoming tampered. It is too easy to allow someone to hack into the system and steal everything. Yahoo hosting keeps it simple, and allows you the option to protect your passwords.
Monthly Report
Yahoo also provides their customers with a report monthly. This report tracks how long a visitor was on the site, where the majority of people clicked and where they were referred from. These reports are charted and can be sent to the client monthly or daily. What better way to understand how best to market your business, then beginning to understand where the people are coming from? Once you understand where potential customers are looking on the site, you will begin to figure out how to improve your layout. Is it too wordy? Or are there too many scattered pictures? Perhaps there are not enough pictures? Whatever the reason, make sure to evaluate these free reports monthly or daily. They can be a lifesaver when it comes to marketing.
Yahoo will announce your new site with an email. They call this the grand opening blast, which means that it will go out to new and old contacts. This ensures that you do not have to do all the dirty work yourself. It can be very tedious emailing and trying to conduct business. The ease with which Yahoo assists their customers in getting the word out is great. The website will also be subject to a report in which you can view which search engine refers you the most.
Many other Features
When you join Yahoo hosting, you have the option of exploring various features. For instance, there are tutorials that will help you improve your chances of getting the domain name that you want. They have an option for online marketing, details and Ecommerce. If you are using Yahoo hosting for personal reasons, then most of the information regarding Ecommerce will not apply. Yahoo is for basic websites, not more, not less. I have been hosting my basic WordPress site with them for years, no problem. Are there better hosts out there? Probably there are. But what they provide me is jut enough. I actually like the simplicity of the control panel and how stuff is organized.
I would not recommend! I used the small business plan for 6 years prior to other hosting services like Godaddy.com and HostGator.com had become more popular and more reliable. They were good in the beginning and I went with them because Yahoo was a brand name I new and could trust. But things have changed.
Their prices are too high for hosting compared to other hosting plans. I was willing to stay with them because I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of moving my site and saved emails.
However I was unable to because their are not very compatiable with WordPress. Because their PHP is outdated it is impossible to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress therefor creating security issuses with WordPress. Also they do not allow access to the .htacess file which provide access to change your links in WordPress to be complete search engine friendly.
My advice is to use GoDaddy.com or HostGator.com. I know alot of people usualy buy their domain via Godaddy.com and host it via HostGator.com.
Also I have contacted customer support for all 3 of the afforementioned. Yahoo has the worst customer service out of all of them. I even just got billed by Yahoo for the service I called in and canceled last month in Sept.
For some reason Yahoo required that I call in to cancel my account with them. Which I thought was strange for a company that size to require me to call in to complete the cancellation of my account. Even after calling in and the customer service cancelling my account I still was billed. Even though NO PREMIUM services showed in my account and my domain had already been moved.
When I called in today after being charged in error again. The representative even argued with me! Couldn’t believe it. If you are trying to win back a customer having your representative disagree is not the way to do it, Yahoo.
I have called Godaddy’s customer service and they are pretty good. But I think HostGator’s email customer support is perhaps the best. Very quick response!
I used Geocities website hosting since 1997, then it turned to Yahoo and I continued to host my site with a small business membership. I have 100+ pages to my website, many pages are informational, and I have always published them with Microsoft Frontpage. All of a sudden I cannot connect to my website with Frontpage because Yahoo has disabled the Frontpage extensions because Microsoft has discontinued supporting them. This leaves me to now find another website hosting company which continues to support Frontpage in order to continue publishing my website. Yahoo gave me no notice before disabling the Frontpage extensions. Yahoo is very unprofessional towards it’s customers.
I am generaly satisfied with Yahoo and glad I went for a big brand name. The only bad thing I can come up with is the outdated PHP version an sometimes bad CSS. I guess they do not upgrade their servers regularly. Overall I would recommend them.
